"TOWER OF PEACE"
The strategies of art against the strategies of violence
The Council of Rome and EUR S.p.A., present a cultural event with a new conception devoted to contemporary audio-visual language.
The event is an international exhibition of works of art, television programs and electronic publishing aimed at the valorisation of contemporary audio-visual languages through photography and computers, monitor and web.
The 2002 program proposes, with this event, an international collective exhibition held in particularly significant urban sites in Rome (EUR-Palazzo della CiviltÓ, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Stazione di Roma Termini), which has always been considered the city of hospitality and tolerance. The event has been sponsored by Fao and Telespazio, Acea, Eutelsat ecc.
The extraordinary metaphysical architecture of the "Palazzo della CiviltÓ Italiana" (symbol of the Eur district and the future National Audiovisual Museum) has been transformed into a sculpture of electronic light and into the "Tower of Peace" by the images of artists and photographers from all over the world, who are participating in the project. The building emphasises the use of images which are both ethically and expressively different from those created by the violence following the massacre of the 11 th September in New York and Washington.
The speakers at the press conference will be: Walter Veltroni, Mayor of Rome; Raffaele Ranucci, President of EUR S.p.A.; Majid Char, in charge of Fao Broadcast Partnership office; Marco Maria Gazzano, Dirctor of Art and Communication and President of Kinema Association, which ideated the project. Other participants will include: Achille Bonito Oliva, Art Critic; Alberto Abruzzese, Dean of the Communications Faculty of "La Sapienza" University of Rome; Gaetano Stucchi, from UER (Union Européenne de Radio-Télévision).
At the end of the conference, there will be cocktails and the official illumination of the "Tower of Peace" images.
